Jennie Augusta Brownscombe (1850 – 1936) was an American painter, designer, commercial artist and illustrator. She studied in the United States and in Paris.
She made portraits and genre paintings and her works are in many public collections and museums. She was described as “one of America’s best artists”.
Brownscombe’s work expressed a sentimental viewpoint and a feminine perspective.
She participated with other artists to the Colonial Revival Movement that admired colonial history and she was aware of the colonial roots of her mother’s family.
